The BACE is designed to assess barriers to mental health care for people with mental health problems. It includes barriers related to, and unrelated to, stigma and discrimination. It has 30 items. It contains a 12-item subscale which measures the extent to which stigma and discrimination are barriers to care (‘treatment stigma’). It encompasses both barriers to initial access and continued service use. It is suitable for use with community samples and samples already in contact with services.
