The Children and Families MHPSS Resource Collection offers access to a wide range of key materials that are relevant to mental health and psychosocial support work with children and families across humanitarian and development settings.

"The aim of this collection of resources is to provide practitioners, policy-makers and others who work to support children and families with a easy-to-access, first-stop repository when they need to find materials to support their efforts across the programme cycle and beyond."

To aid navigation, this Resource Collection can be browsed through two points of entry. The first one comprises categories of the diverse humanitarian and development sectors through which Children and Families MHPSS interventions are implemented. The second set is made up of categories that follow different phases or areas of programme implementation or intervention.

The Resource Collection includes many types of materials (see list below) which have also been classified by resource format, target audience, intervention group, implementation context, geographical location, etc, and users may use a system of filters to search for what they need:

  • Guidance/Standard: resources that provide information about agreed interagency standards and advice about implementing these, or give expert guidance about a specific topic related to MHPSS for children and families or about implementation through the programme cycle.

  • Practitioner Tool: resources focussed on implementation and/or key aspects of practice for humanitarian, MHPSS or practitioners working with children and families in conflict contexts.

  • Toolkit: resources with a selection of different tools that have been reviewed and gathered together, often giving practitioners additional information on how to navigate the selected tools to find the most relevant for their context.

  • Training Resource: different types of training materials such as training manuals, documents relating to a full training programme, or online courses.

  • Resource Package: related to a specific programme intervention, which may include resources on planning, management, training and practitioner resources.

  • Activity Resource: resources that outline specific activities to be used with children, adolescents and/or families.

  • Advice Resource: resources that give advice and tips for parents, caregivers,  teachers and practitioners working with children and families in conflict contexts.

  • Advocacy Resource: resources with detailed information useful for advocacy regarding MHPSS for children and families in conflict contexts.

  • Academic Publication: research or scientific publications (grey literature) that is relevant to the MHPSS for children and families field.

This Resource Collection was developed as part of the HIAS-funded initiative, “Joint Response in Ukraine on MHPSS for Children and Families for Local and International Agencies”. The MHPSS Collaborative and MHPSS.net have curated a collection of resources on the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of children and families during conflict. The implementation team for this larger initiative comprised Kira Lomakina, Pernille Hansen, Ashley Nemiro, Louise Juul Hansen, Karlo Dukic (from the MHPSS Collaborative), and Valeria Florez, Marcio Gagliato, Aloka Weerasekera and Ananda Galappatt (from MHPSS.net).

The Resource Collection was developed by Valeria Florez and Kira Lomakina, with the support of their respective teams. The development of the online toolkit site was by Cezar Neaga (const NEXT).

Colleagues from across the globe shared their expertise and experience to support the development of this Resource Collection. Special thanks are due to Joanne Lee, Louis Juul Hansen, Karen Paul, Tara Russell and Xuan Phan for their contributions to shaping the structure of the collection.
